Audition Details

YpM offers three choral teams:

• Training Chorus: Girls & boys, approximately grades 2-5
  Rehearsal: Tuesday, 4:30 - 5:30 pm
   
• Repertory Chorus: Girls & boys with unchanged voices, grades 5-8
  Rehearsal: Tuesday, 6:00 – 7:30 pm
   
• High School Ensemble: Girls & boys with changed voices, grades 9-12
  Rehearsal: Tuesday, 7:45–9:15 pm

Auditions are available in September, January, and May/June. The next auditions are in May & June, 2013:

• Monday May 13, 6-9pm
• Monday June 10, 6-9pm
• Monday June 17, 6-9pm

Auditions are by appointment with YpM's Artistic Director, Robert Barney, and take approximately 15 minutes. Formal musical training is not a prerequisite for the younger singers, but some prior musical experience is necessary for admittance to the high school division. The divisions of the chorus often perform together. All auditions take place at Second Church in Newton, 60 Highland Street in West Newton. YpM plans for the 2013 spring season include a spring concert and performances in New York City by the Repertory Chorus and High School Ensemble. A brief recap of what -- and where! -- Ypm has been singing...

In the past three seasons, YpM members have appeared in a world premiere and made a professional recording with other choruses, including one from Germany, performed "Carmina Burana" with Chorus pro Musica at Jordan Hall in Boston, and performed at Faneuil Hall at a fundraiser for a charity called "Pitching in for Kids". In late June 2011, YpM traveled to Montréal, Canada. The chorus performed at some of city’s most famous and historic venues and was hosted by the world-renowned boy choir Les Petits Chanteurs du Mont-Royal, YpM's guests in 2008. YpM’s performances this season include an appearance at Sanders Theater (Harvard University) and with the Newton Choral Society in Carmina Burana.
