About Youth pro Musica

Youth pro Musica was founded in 1970 by Director Emerita Roberta Humez and was then led from 1995 to 2003 by Hazel Somerville. YpM's singers, drawn from over thirty communities in and around Boston, attended weekly rehearsals throughout the school year and performed widely throughout the Greater Boston area. In 1995, YpM proudly founded a new choral program based in Dorchester, MA. The branch grew steadily in members and support over the subsequent years. In 2003, YpM was able to help the branch incorporate on its own into the Boston City Singers.

YpM's current Artistic Director, Peter Krasinski, assumed leadership in January 2004. A nationally renowned organist and distinguished music educator, Krasinski holds degrees in music education, organ performance, and sacred music from Boston University.

YpM has a long history of commissioning original works and performing local, national, and world premieres. YpM also collaborates frequently with professional orchestras and adult choirs of the Greater Boston area. Recent appearances include collaborations with the American Boys Choir, Tufts University and the MasterSingers of Worcester.
